Its only a week away and we are so excited about how the festival is shaping up thanks to all the hard work behind the scenes from the Whitegold team!
It feels like we are taking over the whole of St Austell town as every inch of space in Aylmer Square, White River Place, Fore Street, The St Austell Market House and Biddicks Court is going to be crammed full of goodies and treats for anyone that can make it into town that day!
From local ceramicists and craft makers showing us their wares, to demonstrations and workshops catering for all ages, (including what promises to be a spectacular Raku firing), we have free activities galore…
Speaking of catering, some of the local cafes and food outlets are offering special Whitegold offers for the day (pick up money off vouchers from our information stands) we also have a team from the Cornwall Food Foundation cooking up some treats in the clay oven, and for your further delight we have live entertainment from some of Cornwall’s finest singer songwriters and local school children singing clay songs, and the St Austell Youth Band AND the Champagne Cornish Chorus! Phew!
As if THAT isn’t enough SpinDrift Dance Collective will be bringing a Flock of dancers to dance across the site, appearing and disappearing, telling stories, dancing in doorways and highlighting landscapes and environments.
We will also have live radio from the Chaos Group (do you remember the throne they brought to the Garden Festival? A veritable selfie magnet)… and speaking of photo opportunities, Higher Beings will also be with us so make sure you look up!
As well as ALL OF THAT we will have some of the best ceramicists across the UK and the world with us that day – the 10 short-listed artists who are up for winning the first ever Whitegold International Ceramics Prize! The nominees will all be there on the day giving presentations to the judges, and you, about their work and what it might mean for St Austell if they are chosen.
Then the decision will be made by the judges later this month about who gets to win and make a public art installation for the town! More details here
In addition we also have a celebratory kiln firing at Blackpool Pit as part of our summer brick making workshops – all previous participants are also invited! More details are here
There is even more happening than that but we just wanted to give you a flavour of all the things we have lined up for the day!
See you soon!
