Brick Making Workshops Announced:
Friday 9th August – 10am – 1pm and 2pm – 5pm
Saturday 10th August – 10am – 1pm and 2pm – 5pm
Friday 23rd August – 10am – 1pm and 2pm – 5pm
Saturday 24th August – 10am – 1pm and 2pm – 5pm

In these free workshops you will learn all the processes involved in making clay bricks.

Using waste materials from the china clay industry gifted by Imerys, we have developed a new clay body for you to use that includes quartz sand and mica residues. You will learn how to blend and process the clay ready for making, before slapping it into a traditional wooden brick mould. The bricks will be fired on site using a brick clamp kiln during the Whitegold Festival on 21stSeptember.

All participants will be invited to come and see the firing taking place. And before you ask – we want to collect ideas from all participants about what the bricks should be used to build – we are leaving this one up to you!

To sign up and for all the details email brickfield@whitegold.org.uk

More about the walk: The walking route is approximately 6k, along footpaths and a small bit of road. The terrain is at times slightly rough ground, and so suitable comfortable footwear (walking boots or trainers) is essential. We will meet at 10am at Hornick Hill carpark and expect the whole event to take about 5 hours (including a couple of essential snack breaks).

We regret that this event is not suitable for wheelchair users due to the nature of the footpaths and a reasonable level of fitness is required. We are holding other events in August which are much more accessible.

Brickfield invites you to get involved in all aspects of the project, for further details or to register interest contact brickfield@whitegold.com
