Cleo Mussi

The Space Man

The artist Cleo Mussi is possibly the best known and well respected mosaicist working in the UK. Originally trained at Goldsmiths in the late 80’s she has completed a number of large commissions for public spaces including The John Lewis Partnership in Solihull and The BBC Asian Network in Leicester.

The proposed artwork for one of the St Austell town centre installations is “The Space Man”, created as part of a new series of work “Mussi’s Herbal” which the artist has been working on for several years. This theme brings together her clay mosaics with a colourful and humorous exploration or plants in medicine in this country.

“The Space Man” which refers to the efforts to keep all of the world seeds preserved for future generations – an ambition which sits well with the mission of the gardens surrounding St Austell. The Space Man is also fun and interactive.
