Ceramic artist Andy Sheppard joins us at this year’s Whitegold Festival with a Raku firing at the Afternoon Gallery, High Cross Street, St Austell, PL25 4AB
Gallery Director and potter Andy Sheppard will demonstrate the exciting art of raku firing, an old Japanese technique, where combustibles like sawdust and flame combine to create ravishing colour on ceramics. The Afternoon Gallery opened on July 1st of this year, the other artists in residence are Lynn Simms (Printmaker/Painter) and Robin Leonard (Painter). The Gallery shows a range of art and ceramics as well as functioning as a studio and is currently running a series of raku workshops and open days. To involve the local community in creating art and ceramics is one of the main aims of the project.
